Honeycrisp Apples: Commercial Email Discussion Group
For commercial Honeycrisp growers, researchers and marketers, Honeycrisp.org provides an electronic forum to discuss horticultural, marketing, and research topics dealing with Honeycrisp Apples.
The discussion group mailing list, called a ListServe, is generously provided by the Virtual Orchard.
If you are unfamiliar with the way in which a ListServe works, here is an explanation.
To send a request to be added to the list, please fill out the information
below.
Note from the webmaster: I am getting a lot of requests to join the list from people who have not filled out any information in the form. The reason for this subscription form is to prevent spammers from joining the list and flooding us with junk mail. If you don't give me some idea of who you are by filling out the form, I can't add you. This policy protects all of the members. The information you put here is immediately deleted after you have been approved for the list, and its only purpose is to help me to protect the list from unscrupulous marketers. Thanks!

ListServes and how they work
You are all probably familiar with Newsetters. You can subscribe and
unsubscribe to a mailing list. The owner of the mailing list periodically sends
out a newsletter that automatically gets sent to all of the members of the list.
A ListServe is very similar with this important difference: any member of the
list can send out an e-mail and it gets sent to everyone else on the list. This
allows for a dynamic conversation to be generated amongst the members of the
list.
If a member wishes to send out a message they simply send it to
honeycrispnews@honeycrisp.org, it will automatically be sent to every member of
the list. It must be sent from the e-mail address used when the member
subscribed. If it is sent from an e-mail address that is not on the list, it
will not be sent out.
When a member receives a message from someone on the list they can respond to
it in two ways. If they use the "Reply" option in their e-mail
program, their response will be sent only to the member who sent the message. If
they use the "Reply to All" option, the message will be sent to all
members. (Of course, a member can simply send out a new e-mail to the list as
described above rather than replying.)
ListServes are very easy to use and the actual mechanics of sending and
receiving will become quickly apparent once members begin interacting.
Once a request for membership has been accepted, you will receive a
confirmation e-mail. This message will also contain instructions on how to use
the ListServe.
Proper and Improper Use
The Honeycrisp News ListServe is intended to provide growers, researchers and
marketers a forum in which they can discuss issues relating to the industry. As
such, any member is free to offer opinions, criticisms and suggestions. Opinions
will not be suppressed.
However, because membership gives on the ability to send out a single e-mail
that the ListServe sends on to every member on the subscriber list, it is
possible for a member to use the ListServe to 'spam' their fellow members. This
may manifest itself as pure spam, unsolicited commercial e-mail, or mail on
issues unrelated to the industry from persons not in the industry. The questions
asked above help us determine whether or not someone has a legitimate interest,
however, we can be fooled. If someone poses as an interested party, but simply
wants to use the ListServe for spam, they will be removed from the subscriber
list.

is a detailed explanation of spam.
